I am a retired high school counselor, having spent 30+ years in various roles in education. My first job was teaching reading and art in the central valley of California. I really enjoyed working with the farm-workers’ children and learned so much from them. I then moved to Magdalena, New Mexico, where I taught reading and coached basketball in this tricultural town of Navajo, Mexican-American and white rancher students.
After receiving a master’s degree in guidance and counseling, I worked as director of career education at New Mexico Highlands University. I then moved to Prescott, Arizona and worked as a counselor and director of education for four foster-child group homes. I eventually settled in Chino Valley, Arizona, where I worked for 30 years as high school counselor and soccer coach.
My years at Chino were successful and rewarding. In addition to being named teacher of the year, I was named Arizona coach of the year, following our sixth state soccer championship. I was also named to the CVHS athletic hall of fame.
Upon my retirement, I turned my focus to art, making rustic furniture and carving burl wood bowls. I find great satisfaction in the forest to art piece process -- chainsaw to table so to speak. My pieces are one of a kind, and it is my goal to share the natural, organic beauty of these native woods, and give these trees a second life giving, pleasure to everyone for years to come.
